The planned redevelopment of former BBC Oxford Road site in Manchester city centre has made further progress afterBruntwood named its joint venture partner for the residential element of the new £750m mixed-use scheme.
Bruntwood’s selection of Select Property Group follows the approval of the BBC Oxford Road masterplan by Manchester City Council in April 2015.
The development is expected to comprise 1.2m sq ft of offices that Bruntwood will deliver alongside Manchester Science Partnerships. Select is working up detailed plans for the four residential blocks onsite, which would comprise 650 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments, together with two serviced apartment blocks that would be primarily occupied by international students.
Chris Oglesby, chief executive of Bruntwood, said: “We chose to work alongside Select due to the strong alignment of their customer-focused proposition with ours. Working together, we aim to deliver a fully integrated residential and commercial community to our target market.
“It is, however, their customers and ongoing management of the residential space alongside our management of the commercial and wider place that will create a truly distinctive new community that will help drive this city’s continued growth.”
Mark Stott, chief executive of Select, said: “We’re delighted to announce this collaboration and be part of the creation of a forward-looking destination that will be unlike anything in the city.
“Bruntwood and Select’s shared approach for creating spaces that put people first will ensure we deliver a legacy for generations, while contributing to the city’s continued economic and cultural success.”
